WorkshopsFriday Workshops: Ergonomics in the Workplace – Feeling the effects of sitting at your desk eight hours a day, day after day? Let Kathy Espinosa with her high-energy presentation introduce you to specific things you can do to help make your work environment the best it can be (ergonomically speaking).
Asset Training – Come join us in this important (two (2) hour) workshop. Developmental Assets represent everyday wisdom about positive experiences and characteristics for young people. Research has found that these assets are powerful influences on adolescent behavior—both protecting young people from many different problem behaviors and promoting positive attitudes and behaviors. The good news is that everyone can build assets, including you! Dian Martin and Irene Lewis have been trained as trainers in the 40 Developmental Assets and will be presenting at both sessions. Desk Smarts: Eat Better, Move More, Stress Less – Marianne Foust is an experienced nutrition educator with a background in nutrition and weight management. This is a dynamic workshop whereby Marianne introduces the working professional to healthy changes in order to lead healthy lives.
Interest-Based Bargaining – Steve Barber of Barber & Gonzales uses the Interest-Based approach to clarify the paradigm of choices in organizational decision-making. Interest-Based Bargaining is an organizational decision-making model that teaches us how to negotiate a deal that meets everyone's interests. Retiree Workshop—Stampin’ Up This year, CAEOP is pleased to offer workshops specifically for our retirees. At this workshop, Amy Davis will help bring out your creative side by sharing her expertise on “stamping” techniques. There is a $5.00 fee per person to be paid at the workshop. (Workshop limited to 25 people.) Saturday (March 6, 2004) Saturday Workshops: We have a little different format this year in order to give our members a lot of information in a short period of time. Carol Scofield – Carol Scofield is the owner of Scofield & Associates, which is an international training company. Carol has been working with companies throughout the country, providing training that includes customer service, conflict management, time management and effective communication. Carol has an impressive background in management, international training, public speaking, life experience and talk show hosting. She brings new value to training seminars and has the tools to educate, motivate and entertain her audiences. Her commitment is to support everyone she works with to be the best they can be. We are so lucky to have Carol presenting this year. She is a dynamic, energetic spirit. Her style of humor, story telling and presentations leaves her audiences educated, inspired and empowered. Her workshops include: Personalize Your Workplace – Carol will introduce you to a 3000 year old Chinese art form of placement called Feng Shui to bring balance, productivity and prosperity to your personal and professional life. Work Should Be More Than a Paycheck – Carol will demonstrate how to develop a plan of action that allows you to bring passion to your professional life. Give Yourself Permission to Say What Needs to Be Said – During this session, Carol will help you develop the tools to maintain your professionalism when having those tough conversations. Retiree Workshop—The Art of Jewelry Making Sandy Williamson will be providing back-to-back workshops on the Art of Jewelry Making for a small fee of $5.00 per person to be paid at the workshop. (Workshop limited to 25 people.) Jim Wesson – Mr. Wesson is a motivating, humorous, and down-to-earth professional trainer, who uses realistic personal and professional experiences to deliver his dynamic messages. His extensive career in law enforcement, public education, training and consulting has given him the public service experience he uses to identify many of the needs and challenges incurred in the public service arena today. He works nationally with many organizations, providing quality professional consulting and training services. Jim Wesson’s three workshops are: Conflict Mediation – Jim Wesson will focus on contacts with the public, co-workers, supervisors, subordinates, and management, maintaining a professional demeanor, and leaving conflicting, personal emotions out of the equation. Communication – Do you sometimes feel frustrated because you can’t seem to find the right words to communicate effectively? In this session, Mr. Wesson will demonstrate how to project and maintain a professional presence when dealing with the public, team members, supervisors, and management. Leadership – In this session, Jim Wesson will tell us how to deliver quality service, with fewer resources. This training promotes a teambuilding atmosphere and focuses on the internal customer as the foundation of the organization. We must realize, all leaders can supervise, but all supervisors are not leaders. Alice Jacobs, Ed D – Dr. Jacobs is an experienced professional. She has written several books and has presented at a previous CAEOP conference. She will be presenting two workshops for us this year: Memory Training – In these hectic times we all now live, who doesn’t wish they had a better memory. Dr. Jacobs explains in a fun and interactive way how memory works and how it changes with age, discuss factors that impact memory, and techniques for improving memory. Decades - Learn to identify the four major generational groups and explore the key learning style characteristics for each group. Dr. Jacobs will help you relate these to customer service needs or preferences of the identified groups. Improving School Communications will be presented by Anne Bomar, current NAEOP President from Kentucky. In the community, the educational office professionals are seen as the image of the school system. We are the immediate source of information about everything that is going on in the schools. Interpersonal communication is the only way to change attitudes people have of your school or school district. Brainstorm how to identify and build better public relations with our internal and external publics by attending this workshop. Saturday Night Banquet: The Saturday night banquet, when our new president is installed, will feature entertainment from Touché, an award winning group of young dancers from Temecula, CA, along with show-stopping entertainment from Riverside County’s Paloma Valley High School Performing Arts students. Please join us to render your support for CAEOP’s newly elected officers, who will be taking on the new challenges in 2004-2005. Sunday (March 7, 2004)
Larry Hahn is currently a Regional Sales Manager for Renaissance Learning, Inc., an educational school improvement company. He has trained and motivated thousands of educators over the last five years, sharing his successes with students, teachers, and administrators across the country in school improvement. Larry has taught elementary school and served as a principal in Texas for thirteen years. Using these experiences, he speaks to others about how to make a difference in children, learning, and enriching the lives of others. Larry will be presenting his endnote message on “Making a Difference - Fulfilling Your Dreams.” Conference Committee at work (June 2003)!
